Hi, I’m Janella,
a recent graduate from San Jose State University with a major in Industrial Design.
My journey started at a young age, falling in love with the idea of creation and humanity. Since then, I have developed a strong passion for design. I believe that change begins with compassion. In my past, present, and future endeavors, I strive to promote inclusivity and individuality.
Human first. Designer second.
…but what does it mean?
This is a saying I choose to live by and to guide my life. This stems from the idea that we are all human at the end of the day. I learned that compassion towards each other is essential to becoming not only a good designer, but also, an overall good person.
As humans, we’re not perfect. We are bound to make mistakes, experience failures and rejections, but it’s all part of the life experience. What matters is what we take away from every experience and how we use that for the better.
As I’ve mentioned in my bio, I believe that change starts with compassion. Tying this back into design, in order to truly innovate and create, we must understand the experiences behind them. In this way, we would be able to identify needs and unmet opportunities for a better quality of life for all.
Emotion is a huge part of design; it is the root of connection.
